Stephen A. Smith Went Off on Terrell Owens After TO Claimed Max Kellerman Is Blacker

Written by on November 21, 2019

Stephen A. Smith went after Terrell Owens on ESPN this morning, after the former wide receiver questioned the host’s blackness during a debate centered around Colin Kaepernick’s ongoing issues with the NFL.

Owens said that Smith’s co-host, Max Kellerman, was “blacker” than Smith, which led the outspoken host to take Owens to the woodshed.

“Timeout. With all due respect, my brother, I’m a check you right now. You done crossed a line,” he began, stating his case in the original argument again before diving into a deeper discussion of where Owens went wrong.

“First of all, like I said, you, Colin Kaepernick, Eric Reid, any of y’all that want to debate me in front of black people and talk about what’s best for black people, name the time and place. I’ll show up,” he said.

Smith then objected to the idea that he needs to blindly support Kaepernick or risk being less black.

“What’s the definition of blackness?” he asked. “Why are you giving the impression that because I don’t march lock-step with every single thing that Colin Kaepernick wants…”

After TO interrupted, Smith shared a bit of his own backstory and life.

“Excuse me, I’m for Hollis, Queens, New York City,” he said. “You ain’t the only brother out there that’s in the streets. I’m in the streets every day.”

Smith went on to say that he offered both Kaepernick and Reid the opportunity to come on his show and state their case, something that both players apparently declined.

Smith and Reid recently traded jabs over Kaep’s decision to host his own NFL workout, with Smith telling Reid to “grow the hell up” and Reid accusing Smith of being an NFL crony.
