Tory Lanez’s ‘Chixtape 5’ Falls Short of No. 1 on Billboard 200

Written by on November 25, 2019

Tory Lanez’s Chixtape 5 broke the top five of the Billboard 200, but it wasn’t enough to overtake Celine Dion’s number one album Courage.

His album debuted with 83,000 equivalent album units, according to Billboard. It also is the most-streamed album of the week, bringing in 73,000 streaming equivalent album units, so about 94 million on-demand audio streams for the hit-maker. Lanez’s previous albums, Love Me Now and Memories Don’t Die came in at number four and three back in 2018, respectively.

While fans are raving about the newest addition to the Chixtape series, Lanez admitted that he was actually losing out on money by putting out the album. “We actually didn’t do this from a monetary standpoint, we did this from a standpoint of like, I’m losing money doing the album but what is gonna come out of it? Of course it’s gonna be incredible,” the rapper said in an interview with HOT 97. “I feel like it’s damn near at a place where it’s gonna be critically acclaimed because no one ever did it before.”

The 18-track album is filled with a number of skits and samples. Fans enjoyed the love shown to legendary artists like T-Pain, Ashanti and Lil Wayne. “The Chixtape series is something that has a cult following,” he said. “The Chixtape series is bigger than Tory Lanez. I know that this means a lot to [my fans], bringing it back, because they thought that it was gonna end at 4. It’s a way more important experience this time.”
