‘Power Rangers’ Reboot Reportedly in the Works at Paramount Pictures

Written by on December 14, 2019

Power Rangers are likely returning to the big screen.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Paramount Pictures is working on another reboot for the Mighty Morphin franchise. Filmmaker Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F***ing World) is reportedly in talks to direct the film with a script by Patrick Burleigh (Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway). The storyline will reportedly involve a time travel element, as a group of modern-time Power Rangers will attempt to find their way back to the future after being transported to the 1990s.

The film will be produced by Hasboro’s Allspark Pictures. Stay tuned as more information about the feature becomes available.

The Power Rangers franchise kicked off in 1993 as a television series based on the Japanese Super Sentai franchise. Though there have been a number of iterations since its debut, the Power Rangers has rarely strayed from the original premise: a group of teenage friends who could transform into monster-fighting superheroes. The franchise has also gave fans three feature films: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie in 1995, Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie in 1997, and Power Rangers in 2017. The latter starred Naomi Scott, RJ Cycler, Becky G, Ludi Lin, and Dacre Montgomery, who hinted at the reboot during a Reddit AMA earlier this year.

“I think there is a movie in the works but it’s not with me and the cast,” the Stranger Things said star when asked if another Power Rangers flick was on the way. “So yes, but not with us.”
