A DoorDash delivery driver was killed on Christmas morning, and the suspects are still at large.
Virginia police are looking for two men who committed an armed robbery, which resulted in the death of the driver Yusuf Ozgur and left another man injured, People reports.
According to police, the incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Christmas morning after the two suspects entered a Denny’s, where one was armed with a gun and the other a baton. They demanded employees and patrons hand over their cell phones and wallets, and demanded cash from the registers. Moments later, as the men fled from the eatery, they encountered 56-year-old Ozgur outside; the two suspects struck Ozgur with the baton and then shot him.
The men also shot a 34-year-old man who refused to hand over his personal items. He is expected to recover from his wounds. The police said the suspects left without any money or property. There were around 20 people in the restaurant during the robbery.
Ozgur was rushed to the closest hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A GoFundMe campaign has been started to help Ozgur’s wife and two children, with a goal to raise $100,000.
DoorDash released a statement to Associated Press: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Yusuf Ozgur, a Manassas-area Dasher. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones, and we are reaching out to his family to offer our full support during this difficult time.”
Police released video footage, which shows the two suspects at the scene. They are described as two men in their late teens or early 20s. Both are between 5 feet 10 and 6 feet tall and weigh about 180 pounds. They were dressed in dark clothing with their faces covered. A $10,000 reward for information leading to their arrest has been offered. Police believe the two suspects are connected to a number of similar armed robberies in the area.
