Written by on December 29, 2019

Authorities have confirmed sports broadcaster Carley McCord was among the five people killed Saturday in a small plane crash in Lafayette, Louisiana

McCord, the daughter-in-law of LSU offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger, was reportedly on her way to Atlanta for the College Football Playoff semifinals between the Tigers and the Oklahoma Sooners. According to the Daily Advertiser, LSU coach Ed Orgeron said “there’s no question” that Ensminger will coach at Saturday’s game.

McCord’s husband, Steve Ensminger Jr., confirmed his wife’s death to the Associated Press. The two got married in early 2018, as indicated in a wedding day tweet shared on Ensminger Jr.’s account.

McCord was reportedly born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and was a graduate of LSU and Northwestern State University. The 30-year-old worked as freelance broadcaster, contributing to outlets like ESPN3, Cox Sports Television, WDSU, and CBS Radio Cleveland. She was also a reporter for the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and the in-stadium game host for the New Orleans Saints and the New Orleans Pelicans.

The plane crash occurred at around 9 a.m. local time and resulted in the deaths of all but one passenger. The other victims were Robert Vaughn Crisp, II, 59; Gretchen D. Vincent, 51; Michael Walker Vincent, 15; and the pilot Ian E. Biggs, 51. The survivor, 37-year-old Stephen Wade Berzas, is now at the hospital in critical condition.
