Two People Injured After Gunfire Erupts at Dallas High School Basketball Game

Written by on January 12, 2020

A shooting at a high school basketball game in Dallas has left two people wounded, The Dallas Morning News reports.

On Saturday night, a Dallas ISD (Independent School District) officer and an 18-year-old male were both transported to hospitals for their injuries.

The officer was grazed by a bullet fragment and is expected to be okay. The 18-year-old is reportedly in more serious condition, after he was reportedly shot in the chest. The victim remained in critical condition after undergoing surgery.

Police were called to the scene around 9:10 p.m., after a physical altercation turned into gunfire during a basketball game between two Dallas high schools, South Oak Cliff and Kimball, Dallas ISD spokeswoman Robyn Harris confirmed. No arrests have been made and authorities don’t have any suspects.

“We really need the community’s help in resolving this,” Harris said. “Because, again, there is senseless violence that must stop.”

Police shared two images of three persons of interest in the case.

Footage taken during the game showed people running out of the court after multiple shots erupted.

The game was the last event of a day of celebration for South Oak Cliff High, which reopened this month after a two-year renovation. “People there were there to unwind for the day,” Harris said. She added that the male victim wasn’t thought to be a current Dallas ISD student.
