Bad Bunny has dropped a new song in honor of the late Kobe Bryant, titled “6 Rings.”
The entirely Spanish-spoken track samples commentary from Kobe’’s 81-point game against the Toronto Raptors in 2006, as well as his retirement speech. The song’s title is a reference to Kobe’s five NBA titles and his marriage to Vanessa Bryant. A translated lyric, per Stereogum, says, “You taught me that everything in life is done with passion/And to win you have to have a heart.”
Bad Bunny took to Instagram on Sunday to share an image of Kobe alongside a message: “I would never have imagined that this would hurt me so much!” he wrote. “This man has been an inspiration in many ways for me to be what I am today.”
Kobe Bryant died on Sunday when his helicopter crashed near Calabasas. His 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven other passengers also perished. That night, the Grammys honored Kobe’s life at the Lakers’ Staples Center home, with a musical tribute from Alicia Keys and Boyz II Men. Kanye West and Chance the Rapper also paid tribute to Kobe during a midnight Sunday Service.
