Fans who gathered along the parade route in Kansas City to watch the Chiefs celebrate their first Super Bowl victory in 50 years got an unexpected opening act.
At around 8 a.m. local time, a grey sedan plowed through the parade route barriers, in an incident that was caught on tape. Several police cars pursued the vehicle, which did its best to evade the authorities.
As the video shows, police were able to spin the sedan around and then surround the vehicle to end the chase.
According to multiple reports, no one was injured during the incident, and two people were taken into custody. Per TMZ, police searched the vehicle and found no weapons, and have determined that it was not in any way a terrorist attack. Authorities reportedly believe that the suspects were impaired.
After turning the parade route into a scene from Grand Theft Auto, officers said that the area is “once again secure” and ready for the parade to begin. The Chiefs will start carrying the Lombardi Trophy through the streets of Kansas City at 12:30 p.m. ET.
