Chance the Rapper Reportedly in Talks to Join ‘Sesame Street’ Movie Cast

Warner Bros. and Chance the Rapper are currently in negotiations that would see him become a part of the cast of their live-action movie, as first reported by Collider. That outlet adds that Chance’s role will see him play a mayor’s aide, which you know has got to be intentional if you’re aware of his dad’s work history.
That film, which is of the musical variety, will star Anne Hathaway and be directed by Jonathan Krisel. It seems likely that you know who Anne Hathaway is but if you need a hit from Krisel’s resume, know that he’s Emmy-nominated and also that he co-created Portlandia.
In fact, as it stands, the movie intends to take a page out of Disney’s The Muppets film (2011) by having a lot of stars make up the cast. For reference, that Muppets film had Amy Adams, Jason Segal, Jack Black, and Donald Glover, on top of cameos from Selena Gomez, John Krasinski. Mickey Rooney, and others.
This would mark the latest instance where Chance the Rapper appears to be pushing to become Chance the Multi-Hyphenate, as he previously starred in the horror-comedy Slice, had a cameo in Netflix’s Between Two Ferns: The Movie, and he’s also set to host the Punk’d revival on Quibi.
It’s also not his first foray into Sesame Street, as he previously stopped by the neighborhood to teach “T is for Theater,” in a 2019 skit where Elmo and Cookie Monster indulge in their worst vices.
According to Variety, the plot of the new film will follow Sesame Street characters after they get kicked out of their own neighborhood, forcing them to prove it indeed does exist.
The movie, which was previously delayed, is currently on schedule to hit theaters on January 15, 2021.
