Rihanna Donates Personal Protective Equipment to New York Amid COVID-19 Surge

Written by on March 27, 2020

Rihanna is among those specifically shouted out by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo for helping with COVID-19 containment efforts.

Late Thursday afternoon, Cuomo thanked the recent PARTYNEXTDOOR collaborator for donating personal protective equipment (PPE) to the state. PPE is an umbrella term for a number of exposure-minimizing wearables that potentially includes gloves, safety glasses, respirators, body suits, and more.

“We’re so appreciative of your help and that of so many others who have stepped up,” Cuomo said.

As of Thursday, roughly half of the United States’ total of 74,000 novel coronavirus cases were based in New York.

“It’s higher in New York because it started here first, because we have global travelers coming here first, because we have more density than most places, but you will see this in cities all across the country,” Cuomo said previously, per CNN. “And you will see this in suburban counties all across the country. We are just a test case.”

And earlier this month, Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation donated $5 million to multiple organizations around the world to help with COVID-19 curbing initiatives.
