Bad Bunny in full drag? Fans are here for it.
On Friday night, the Puerto Rican artist released the official video for the Nessi-assisted track “Yo Perreo Sola,” which translates to “I Twerk Alone” in English. Co-directed by Benito and Stillz, the visual immediately garnered a ton of praise not only for its message of female empowerment but for Bad Bunny’s fearless approach to convey that message.
The video begins with a young boy watching cartoons in his bedroom, before the broadcast is interrupted by the PSA/music video. We’re then taken into a colorful world in which we see Bad Bunny embracing his inner drag queen. He’s rocking a wig, a full face of makeup, various women’s outfits, and a voluptuous breastplate.
“I wrote it from the perspective of a woman,” Bad Bunny told Rolling Stone about the song, which appeared on his Yo Hago Lo Que Me Da La Gana album. “I wanted a woman’s voice to sing it — ‘yo perreo sola’ — because it doesn’t mean the same thing when a man sings it. But I do feel like that woman sometimes.”
The video ends with an important sprawled across the screen message: “If she doesn’t want to dance with you, respect her, she twerks alone.”
