Packers Fans React to QB Drafted as Possible Aaron Rodgers Replacement

During Thursday’s NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers nabbed quarterback Jordan Love. Many were quick to express their frustration at the move, and some theorized that it might just be the team preparing to replace Aaron Rodgers.
As CBS Sports pointed out, Rodgers was drafted by the team 15 years ago as Brett Favre’s eventual replacement. The similarity between that situation and what went down on Thursday has put Rodgers’ future with the Packers in the spotlight.
Prior to the pick taking place, Rodgers said on the Pat McAfee Show that he would welcome a pick of a “skill player in the first round.”
However, it’s not entirely clear how he feels about the situation. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said on Thursday that he has not “connected” with Rodgers about the draft just yet. As per the Packers’ official website, Gutekunst added, “Aaron’s been around a long time and knows what we’re playing for right now.” He said he thinks Rodgers will be a “pro’s pro” and the team plans to “have him for a while competing for championships.”
He called the move to draft Love a “long-term decision,” and that they didn’t “set out” to acquire him at first. “He just happened to be a guy we liked who fell to us, and this was the best decision,” he reaffirmed.
