James Corden and Trevor Noah Are Paying Furloughed Employees’ Salaries

Written by on May 2, 2020

TV show hosts and comedians, James Corden and Trevor Noah, are going out their way to help those impacted by the coronavirus pandemic

According to Variety, Corden told around 60 production employees at The Late Late Show that he would be covering their salaries. Production was forced to shut down on the show on March 15 due to COVID-19. At the time, CBS told employees that the network would only cover eight weeks of salary. Corden had to inform some of his staff that they would be furloughed on May 4. He then revealed that he would be paying their salaries out of his own pocket.

This will reportedly cost Corden “at least mid-five figures” a week. But, he’s not the only TV host that took matters into his own hands. The Daily Show host, Trevor Noah, will cover the salaries for 25 furloughed employees on his Comedy Central production team. Comedy Central shut down production on The Daily Show last month. Since then, he’s been doing a remote version of the show called The Daily Social Distancing Show With Trevor Noah from his home with a limited staff. The Late Late Show returned on April 14 with Corden hosting from his garage in Los Angeles.

Over at ABC, the network has decided to pay its staff full wages despite the shutdown. This left Jimmy Kimmel with the mere task of paying the wages of his stagehands.
