Despite recent troubles, it looks as if Snapchat is at least accomplishing something. As the New York Times reports, Snapchat says it helped more than 400,000 people to register to vote. During a recent two-week time frame, the social media company pushed young people to register to vote by adding a button to users’ profile pages that linked to registration.

Most of the voters who registered through Snapchat apparently did so in so-called battleground states like Texas and Florida. During the two-week period, Snapchat also sent videos urging people to register. It sounds as though it was very successful, especially considering recent news stating the company is “quickly running out of money.”

The button added to profile pages linked to TurboVote.org, which makes the process a whole lot easier for first time voters. Asking a few questions regarding eligibility for voting, the site would then send users to state and local elections boards to register proper. Unfortunately for Snapchat, however, they might not be able to do the same for the elections in 2020.

“While it is obvious that Snap wasn’t prepared for life as a public company, it now has a more pressing problem. It is quickly running out of money,” media and tech analyst Michael Nathanson of MoffettNathanson wrote earlier this month. He says the company is looking for a “miracle” solution to their problems ASAP, or Snapchat could be no more by 2020.
