Marvel and Disney Are Prepping a Winter Soldier-Falcon Limited TV Series

In August 2017, Disney announced it would launch a Netflix-style streaming service that would feature both new and pre-existing original content. There have been reports that the studio was working on multiple limited series that will revolve around Marvel characters who’ve yet to land standalone films. We’ve already heard whispers about Loki’s and Scarlet Witch’s respective TV series; and now, Variety has learned that two other MCU favorites may soon team up on the small screen.
The outlet reported Tuesday that Disney is developing a limited series that will follow the Winter Soldier and Falcon, portrayed Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie, respectively. Malcolm Spellman (Empire) has been hired to write the untitled project, making it the first forthcoming Marvel limited series to secure a writer.
Though news of the proposed TV show broke only a few hours ago, Stan and Mackie have been talking about a possible spin-off for a while.
“We absolutely can. Absolutely. I mean, the right people to make that happen are certainly within feet from us right now,” Stan told Entertainment Tonight on the set of Avengers: Infinity War. “To me, it’s like Martin Brest film classic, Midnight Run, you know. It’s really just sort of in my head, like, 48 hours or a buddy comedy from the ’80s or the ’90s. That’s how I see it.”
Mackie co-signed the idea.
“Sebastian is a damn good actor and he’s a damn good friend, so I think our relationship—really, it’s the three of us, he, Chris Evans, and I—our relationship kind of works really well because there’s a mutual respect,” he told ET in a separate interview. “So a spinoff would be great, but it would be like Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy in 48 Hours, that would be our spin-off. It would end up with us beating the crap out of each other three or four times. I know it.”
