Dave Chappelle Talks About Why He Isn’t Into Twitter
Written by SOURCE on May 13, 2021
Dave Chappelle linked up with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show to talk about everything from his series of socially distanced shows in Ohio, asking fans to boycott Chappelle’s Show, his new Midnight Miracle podcast with Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey, his “gut-wrenching” 8:46 special on the murder of George Floyd, and much more.
On the subject of Twitter, Chappelle called the social media platform “a bathroom wall” when he was asked by Fallon why he never tweets.
“Why would I write all my thoughts on a bathroom wall?” Chappelle said. “Donald Trump, you heard that? And don’t cut that shit in post, Jimmy”
Although he does have an account, Chappelle’s last tweet was posted all the way back in 2012.
It’s not the first time the comedian has touched on why he doesn’t use social media. He explained that he doesn’t want to “spill my guts out” online during an interview that was recorded back in September 2017.
“I’m not really into the social media,” he said. “I keep my blathering in my genre.”
Elsewhere during the interview, Chappelle talked about starting stand-up when he was just 14, growing up in Washington, D.C. and going to the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, and how the idea for the Midnight Miracle podcast came about.
Chappelle also joined in on a segment titled “Dave Chappelle Settles It” in which the comedian was presented with two options, such as jazz or hip-hop, and had to pick which he liked better.
When asked to decide between Call of Duty or Fortnite, Chappelle was in favor of the former.
“Fortnite is the crack of video games. I don’t even touch that stuff,” he said. “I got my son a copy of Fortnite, I haven’t seen him in six months.”
The musical guest for the evening was J. Period performing his track “All in Your Head” featuring Black Thought and Tiffany Gouché with some narration from Chappelle. You can watch that below.
