‘Avengers’ Director: Chris Evans Isn’t Done Playing Captain America Yet

Written by on November 29, 2018

Marvel has been incredibly tight-lipped about the fourth Avengers movie, sharing few details about the upcoming blockbuster. But one thing we knew for sure was that Avengers 4 would mark the end of Chris Evans‘ time as Captain America…but we don’t know that. According to co-director Joe Russo, we haven’t seen the last of the actor in red, white and blue spandex.

“I think it was more emotional for him than it was for us, mostly cause he’s not done yet,” Russo said in an interview with USA Today. “I don’t want to explain what I mean, but audiences will soon understand.”

Russo dancing around the idea of whether or not Evans will return runs counter to a tweet the actor shared in October. On the day that filming wrapped for the fourth Avengers flick, Evans seemed to take a bow

After the tweet sent shockwaves through the actual, non-MCU universe, Evans recanted a bit. He was mum when asked whether or not Captain America dies in Marvel’s latest crossover. “I know it had a ripple effect, but I am neither confirming nor denying anything,” he said of the tweet during a panel at ACE Comic Con

Russo also left the door open for further Avengers films in his interview with USA Today, which would be a logical place for Steve Rogers to return to the silver screen. “It could be a little time, with the integration of Fox and all the Fox characters,” Russo said. “I haven’t talked to [Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige] directly about it, so I don’t know what his plans are. But my guess would be they’re gonna integrate some of the other characters and take their time doing that.”
