Demi Lovato reportedly left rehab clean and sober last month after a nearly fatal opioid overdose in July. The singer was spotted in Beverly Hills, California enjoying a meal with a friend, and not long after, she broke her Twitter silence by celebrating her Grammy nomination. Now, she’s finally addressed that overdose publicly, telling fans to ignore reports on her well-being unless it comes from her directly.
“I love my fans, and hate tabloids,” she wrote, before following it up with four more tweets. “Don’t believe what you read. People will literally make up stuff to sell a story. Sickening.”
She didn’t specifically target any specific articles about her recovery in her tweets, but she did promise, “If I feel like the world needs to know something, I will tell them myself. Otherwise people stop writing about my recovery, because it’s no one’s business but mine.”
She made sure to tell her fans that she’s “sober and grateful to alive.”
“I would love to set the record straight on all the rumors out there but I literally don’t owe anyone anything so I’m not going to,” she continued. “All my fans need to know is I’m working on myself, I’m happy and clear and I’m so grateful for their support.”
In her final tweet of the night, she said, “I’m so blessed I get to take this time to be with family, relax, work on my mind, body and soul and come back when I’m ready.”
