Variety reports that Nicki Minaj is joining the star-studded cast of Angry Birds Movie 2. Peter Dinklage, Jason Sudeikis, Bill Hader, Josh Gad, and Danny McBride will return to reprise their roles from the original film while Leslie Jones, Sterling K. Brown, Awkwafina, and Lil Rel Howery have signed on to lend their voices for the sequel. There are currently no details to provide regarding Nicki’s role in the film.
Angry Birds Movie 2 will not be Nicki’s first time working on a computer-animated film. Her first movie credit came in 2012 when she voiced the role of Steffie in Ice Age: Continental Drift. In 2014, Minaj starred in the comedy The Other Woman where she played the assistant of Carly Whitten, played by Cameron Diaz. It was a minor part, but her ability to radiate in the moments when she was on the screen led to her landing a more significant part on Barbershop: The Next Cut, the third installment in the franchise.
Angry Birds Movie 2 will premiere a little more than three years after the original, which turned out to be a box office success with $352.3 million worldwide and $107.5 million domestically. The sequel’s screenplay has been written by Peter Ackerman, who was mostly notably responsible for helping pen Ice Age and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
Angry Birds Movie 2 is expected to hit theaters on August 16, 2019, a decade after the video game was first released.
