Gangs and Martial Arts Collide in Trailer for Bruce Lee-Inspired Series ‘Warrior’

Fast & Furious director Justin Lin has been working for years to help usher Bruce Lee‘s never-produced idea for a TV show to the small screen. On Tuesday, we got our latest look at the martial arts legend’s long-gestating idea, after Lin dropped the trailer for the Cinemax series Warrior.
According to the official description of Warrior, the show will follow the Tong Wars of 19th Century San Francisco, when gangs known as Tongs battled in the streets of that city’s Chinatown. Warrior follows Ah Sahm, a martial artist who moves to the United States and becomes a hatchet man for one of the gangs.
Lin explained how he became involved with the project in a statement.
“I’ve always admired Bruce Lee for his trailblazing efforts opening doors for Asians in entertainment and beyond,” Lin said. “So I was intrigued when [executive producer] Danielle [Woodrow] told me about the urban legend of his never-produced idea for a TV show and suggested we bring it to life. Then, when Shannon [Lee] shared with us her father’s writings – rich with Lee’s unique philosophies on life, and through a point of view rarely depicted on screen – Danielle and I knew that [I] had to make it.”
Lin has worked within the legacy of Lee in the past. Back in 2007, he directed a mockumentary about a team of filmmakers attempting to finish Bruce Lee’s Game of Death after Lee died suddenly.
