The Second Installment of ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ Had People Shook

The first episode of Lifetime’s record-breaking, explosive docuseries Surviving R. Kelly inspired an intense reaction on social media, with many viewers—including some notable celebrities—appalled by what was depicted.
The second installment of the three-night, six-part special—which aired Friday night—was no different.
Weinstein has been indicted. Other famous, wealthy & powerful white sexual predators have gone to jail in the wake of scandals like this including Sandusky, Epstein and Nassar. Y’all keep bringing Cosby & Kelly like they have uniquely suffered when they most definitely HAVE NOT.

The fact that people were selling hardcore child pornography of R. Kelly urinating on a 14-year old Black girl on the corner like bootleg movies is one prime example of how much the world doesn’t give a fuck about Black women. #SurvivingRKelly

This ain’t even about R Kelly anymore…it’s about everyone that was apart of it! The ones who knew, the ones who seen, who sold the tapes, and kept the secrets. EVERYONE.

Much of the ire surrounding Friday’s episode centered around those in Kelly’s cadre who allowed the alleged abuse to go on unchecked.
This #SurvivingRKelly doc hurts so bad because a monster like him can’t exist without a society that allows him too. His career is a byproduct of rape culture.

Viewers also criticized the parents of the victims, many of whom allegedly turned a blind eye to what was happening.
The parents in these cases man… how do they sleep at night?#SurvivingRKelly

Eventually focus turned to members of the jury in the 2008 child pornography case, in which Kelly was acquitted. Some pointed out that the jury blamed the accusers because they were black.
A reminder that black girls are seen as older and less innocent than white girls.
Which is basically what that juror just said. “The way they talk, the way they dress. I just didn’t believe them.”#SurvivingRKellyhttps://t.co/iJnh83Buku

The Jurors just should said “we the jurors dont care about black girls” #SurvivingRKelly https://t.co/3DsO2eDYSo

That white juror said he didn’t believe the women who testified against R. Kelly because he didn’t like the way they LOOKED. #SurvivingRKelly pic.twitter.com/XUcdEPqpLo
