Louis Vuitton Celebrates Virgil Abloh’s Men’s Collection With Art Installations

Written by on January 10, 2019

What better way to celebrate the U.S. arrival of your inaugural Louis Vuitton men’s collection than with multiple massive art installations that are practically begging for Instagrammed interaction?

That’s the move for LV and men’s wear artistic director Virgil Abloh. The prolific Off-White CEO shared a few glimpses at these experiences on Instagram Wednesday, noting that he had commissioned for a giant X to be added to one in New York signifying optimal photo-taking coordinates.

“A yellow brick road, a field of red poppies, an emerald green forest—the colorful World of Oz that inspired the Men’s Spring-Summer 2019 Collection has been brought to life in a short-lived residency housed in the Chrome Hearts’ West Village store,” an LV rep said in a statement.

The full space, billed as a “temporary residence,” will give fans one week to make their way down and experience the collection’s pieces in an environment specially designed to put each influence on display. Per a press release, the Chrome Hearts’ West Village location will run Jan. 10 – 19 from noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

There are also Abloh x LV installations in Los Angeles and Harajuku. Below, peruse some official images of the spaces and the pieces.

Abloh’s vision for the brand, as he explained to the New York Times when announcing the role back in March, is to explore the “next chapter of design and luxury” from the perspective of a brand that’s arguably the pinnacle of said luxury. “And to show a younger generation that there is no one way anyone in this kind of position has to look is a fantastically modern spirit in which to start,” he said.
