Some Fans Are Convinced The Weeknd Took Shots at Drake on “Lost in the Fire”

Gesaffelstein and The Weeknd‘s new collab “Lost in the Fire” is out now.
As we expected, the song is really fucking good and presumably marks the start of a particularly prolific year for Gesaffelstein as he settles into his recently announced status as a Columbia recruit. Some Weeknd fans, meanwhile, have taken to complementing the sixth chapter hype with an interpretation of a certain “Lost in the Fire” lyric that puts Drake on the receiving end of some criticism.
Right there in the first verse, The Weekend sings about wanting to have “a baby with the right one” because he could “never be the one to hide one.” As anyone who was awake for 2018 knows, that could be—and has been—interpreted as a reference to the once-secret child that was revealed at the height of last year’s Drake and Pusha-T back-and-forth.
And I just want a baby with the right one
(I just want a baby with the right)
‘Cause I could never be the one to hide one
(I could never be the one to hide)
For his part, Drake would later say that he wasn’t hiding his kid from the world but rather “the world from my kid.” As for past Drake and The Weeknd-related disagreements, they do exist. So far, Drake hasn’t joined fans in this interpretation of the “Lost in the Fire” lines. The Weeknd also hasn’t offered any clarity. Those are both things that will likely not happen.
