Kyrie Irving Says Young Teammates ‘Don’t Know What It Takes to Be a Championship Level’

Written by on January 13, 2019

After the Orlando Magic handed his team their second straight loss, Celtics superstar Kyrie Irving addressed the mentality of Boston’s young roster during the post-game interview.

“The young guys don’t know what it takes to be a championship level team. What it takes everyday. And they think it’s hard know, what do they think it will be like when we’re trying to get to the Finals,” Irving said to the media.

Coming into the season, the Celtics were favored as the team to beat in the East. But they’re currently sitting at fifth place in a losing streak that includes a blowout loss to the Heat on Thursday. Boston’s inability to play to their championship potential has clearly irritated Irving, who is fully aware of what it takes to win the NBA Finals.

Irving notably also pointed some blame on himself “as a leader.” After a few years as LeBron James’ sidekick in Cleveland, Irving is the head of the Celtics’ show. It’s what he signed up for.
