Future is recharged.
Though he released a handful singles, dropped a couple of joint tapes, and curated the Superfly soundtrack, the prolific rapper didn’t release a proper studio album in 2018—as he’s done for the past four years.
Well, the wait is finally over. On Thursday night, Future delivered his long-awaited seventh studio album, The WIZRD, featuring contributions by Travis Scott, Young Thug, Tay Keith, Metro Boomin, and more.
Future confirmed the project’s release date earlier this month, when he delivered its lead single “Crushed Up.” Since then, the Atlanta rapper has dropped the project’s “Jumpin on a Jet” track, album merch, and a personal documentary also titled The WIZRD.
Prior to The WIZRD’s drop, Future spoke about the album-making process, and how he set out to reclaim control of his work.
“I wanted to be more involved in this album,” he told The Fader, “like when I was in my mixtapes, when I first started doing my mixtapes at the beginning, like 1000 and Kno Mercy and the beginning, when I had a lot of say-so. And Dirty Sprite, the first Dirty Sprite, just putting it together and just being more hands-on. I just wanted to take it back.”

Future also stopped by Hot 97 to chat with Nessa on a wide range of topics. When asked what his “biggest regret in life” was, Future replied: “I should’ve love harder, I guess. I should’ve found a way to love the right way […] I come from nothing.”
He continued: “I didn’t have a male role model to show me how to open a door for a woman or buy her flowers. Nobody bought my mom flowers […] I never seen that male role model just showing me how to treat a woman. So as I grew up and I get women, or I get girls, or whatever the situation may be, I learn through my relationships, through failed relationships, how to treat the next woman.”
