‘The Mighty Ducks’ Cast Reunites at an Ice Rink in Hockey Jerseys

Written by on January 22, 2019

It looks like the stars of the 1992 film The Mighty Ducks had something of a reunion this past weekend.

On Sunday, one of the movie’s actors Danny Tamberelli shared photos and videos of the reunion on Instagram. The group were fitted in bright green jerseys for the get-together, much like the ones from the film. They even had their characters’ last names stitched on the backs of the jerseys.

“What a sweet day!! Thanks to the @anaheimducks for a great day reliving my #mightyducks season with some old friends! Photo cred by my lovely wife @katelyndetweiler,” Tamberelli wrote on Instagram, thanking the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks, a pro hockey team that began after the film franchise became popular.

The photos and clips show Tamberelli, Kenan Thompson, and others smiling as they skated and passed around a puck at the upstate New York rink. Thompson went on to star in the 1994 sequel, D2: The Mighty Ducks.

If you don’t remember the premise of The Mighty Ducks, it went something like this: Emilio Estevez plays Gordon Bombay, an attorney arrested for drunk driving, who is sentenced to 500 hours of community service as a punishment. In the film, Bombay has a personal history with hockey, so he’s made to coach the kids’ team with little support.

Even though critics weren’t a fan, viewers loved The Mighty Ducks; it subsequently got two sequels and an animated TV series. According to Esquire, the first movie grossed around $50 million in theaters and $54 million in video rentals.
