Tory Lanez Declares Himself the ‘Best Rapper Alive Right Now’
Written by SOURCE on January 24, 2019
Making bold claims is a lot of fun, and 2019 seems like it’s going to be filled to the brim with them. In that spirit, Tory Lanez is next up with an extended statement in which he declared himself “the best rapper alive right now.”
Indeed, Lanez tweeted these thoughts very early Thursday, even making a point to specifically mention both Pusha-T and J. Cole. “Don’t tell me nothing about Cole or Pusha-T either,” he said, adding that they are both two of his “favorite rappers” but—in his opinion—they haven’t stepped up. “I gave them both an equal opportunity to go bar for bar with me,” he said. “And they weren’t READY.”
I could keep typing out the tweets as I did above, but that feels quite strongly like a waste of both mine and your time. Just read the actual tweets:
The timing of these comments from Lanez, who just announced a co-headlining overseas tour with former adversary Drake, is interesting. Just yesterday, Pusha-T—without naming names—delivered a message to someone he’s heard wants to “try again” after a previous failure. Naturally, most of us assumed that was directed at Drake.
Adding to the interesting timing, of course, is Cole’s “I’m the greatest right now” line on his just-released track “Middle Child.”
