Another G.I. Joe movie is on the horizon.
Variety reports that Hasbro and Paramount Pictures are working on a fourth, untitled G.I. Joe film. The studio is reportedly in negotiations with the writing duo of Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse to create the script. Shrapnel and Waterhouse are known for their work on Jean Seberg biopic, Seberg, Netflix’s Rebecca, and other projects. Also, Lorenzo di Bonaventura—who has produced the previous G.I. Joe films and the Transformers movies—will work on this new G.I. Joe movie with Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures.
This move shows Paramount’s faith in the franchise as the studio is already gearing up for this year’s release of Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins. Snake Eyes will star Crazy Rich Asians‘ Henry Golding as the head of an anti-terrorist group alongside Andrew Koji and Úrsula Corberó. The film was directed by Insurgent’s Robert Schwentke and it will hit theaters on Oct. 23.
These two new films will add to the franchise that began in 2009 with G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra. Together, G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra and its 2013 sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, grossed over $600 million at the global box office. Despite this success, the franchise took a seven-year hiatus before deciding to move forward with the forthcoming Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins.
