ABC is in the preliminary stages of working with Kevin Feige, chief creative officer of Marvel, on bringing a superhero series to the network.

“We love our partners at Marvel and we’re sad to see [Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.] go, it’s been a big part of our history,” ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke told Deadline while on the Winter TCA Press Tour. “We’re looking forward to working with Kevin Feige and we’re at the very beginning of conversations with him now about what a Marvel and ABC show might look like. Right now, Marvel’s focus has been on Disney+, as it should be.”

With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. set to conclude later this year, ABC had envisioned that there would be “at least one Marvel property on air on the broadcast network at any given time,” according to Deadline

ABC was rumored to be developing a series with a Marvel female superhero, however, nothing materialized out of that plan. Wonder Woman writer Allan Heinberg was given a production commitment from the network to work on a series about female characters with superpowers in September 2018, but details remain limited.

News of ABC’s commitment to working with Feige on a new superhero series comes nearly one month after it was reported that Marvel Television was being shut down. The move seemed to signal Disney’s intent to keep any future Marvel small-screen projects solely on their streaming service, but now it appears that an exception will be made for its sister company at some point down the road.
