The final season premiere of HBO’s hit series Game of Thrones might be one of the most anticipated events in television history. Fans will have to wait one more month for the eight season to kick off on April 14, but the show is not the only thing for its viewership to look forward to. HBO has also teamed up with Adidas to create a pack of Ultra Boosts inspired by various characters and moments from GoT. With season 8 just weeks away, Highsnobiety sat down with Adidas Running senior product manager Stephan Schneider and vice president of licensing and retail at HBO Jeff Peters to discuss the project.
“When you look at Adidas and HBO, or Game of Thrones particularly, you have two powerhouses and two iconic brands. We wanted to bring a sports icon and blend that with a cultural icon to create a really powerful and meaningful story,” Schneider told Highsnobiety.
Six colorways will release in total inspired by key moments and characters from the fantasy series including Night’s Watch, the White Walkers, House Targaryen, Daenerys’ dragons, House Stark, and House Lannister. Each will come complete with special insoles stamped with the show’s logo and messaging on heel tags and lace tips like “Winter Is Here” and “Fire and Blood.”
“The chance to create a bespoke sneaker collection with an industry giant like Adidas was just the type of thing we were looking for as we approached the final season of Game of Thrones,” said Peters. “The Ultra Boost program has been a total trendsetter and such a great fit for the biggest moment in our show’s history.”
The Adidas x Game of Thrones collection hits adidas.com and other select retailers on March 22 for $180 each. Check out the entire interview with Highsnobiety here.
