Adidas Confirms Donald Glover Partnership Has Ended

Nearly just as soon as it began, the partnership between Adidas and Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) has come to a close.
Just days removed from dropping—then deleting—a surprise collection of music on his website, Glover’s collaboration with Adidas is officially over.
Brand sources confirmed with Complex that the Three Stripes’ relationship with the artist ended earlier this year and issued the following statement: “The Adidas Originals by Donald Glover partnership has come to an end. Together Adidas and Glover set out to look beyond the confines of a traditional collaboration inspired by limitless creativity. Adidas continues to be inspired by Glover’s visionary creativity and wishes him the best in his future endeavors.”
First announced in fall 2018 with an animated short film, the collaboration had fans’ hopes high, but ultimately only resulted in three sneaker releases during April 2019 including the Continental 80, Lacombe, and Nizza.
“With this project, I wanted to encourage people to think about how their stories can be told on their feet,” Glover said in a press release for the 2019 collection. “Value isn’t quantified by what you wear, rather the experiences from them. And you make the decision on what works for you, you live through your own lens. The partnership for me is about being able to exemplify what doing your own thing truly looks and feels like.”
One of the more interesting elements of the Glover x Adidas partnership came during Coachella 2019, when the artist literally AirDropped his Adidas sneakers to lucky attendees.
