Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Fires Back at Fox News: ‘They Are Far Superior to and More Intelligent Than Me’

Written by on November 25, 2018

Representative-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is pretty quick with the comebacks.

On Friday, a panel on Fox News sat down to discuss the incoming congresswoman’s wardrobe. Ocasio-Cortez learned about the talk when a viewer tweeted that the news channel was examining Ocasio-Cortez’s shoes “in prime time.” The Bronx native fired back on Saturday, quoting lyrics to a Spanish song by Aventura, which translates to, “No, it’s not love, what you feel is called obsession.”

Ocasio-Cortez also quipped that those who didn’t know Spanish could just listen to Mariah Carey’s song “Obsessed.”

When another Twitter user joked that Fox News needs to “hire a translator just to understand [Ocasio-Cortez’s] roasts,” Ocasio-Cortez responded, saying that the channel “has made it clear that they are far superior to [and] more intelligent than me, who they’ve called a ‘little, simple person.’”

Ocasio-Cortez and Fox News often go back-and-forth like this, particularly because she has said the network “gleefully… crack[s] jokes about working-class people,” largely in reference to her finances and wardrobe.

The New York Democrat became the youngest woman to ever be elected to Congress, ousting incumbent Democrat Rep. Joseph Crowley in June’s primary election.
