Alleged Murderer Of XXXTentacion Waived His Right to a Speedy Trial

One of the four men accused of murdering XXXTentacion has waived his right to a speedy trial. 

Robert Allen and Michael Boatwright appeared in court on October 19. Both are accused of taking part in the robbery that ended in the murder of the rapper. At the hearing, Allen waived his 6th Amendment right to be tried expediently. While the Constitution guarantees the right to a quick trial, defendants occasionally waive that right so that they can have time to build a case. 

Boatwright’s lawyers are taking a different tack, arguing that their client might not be mentally competent to stand trial. The 22-year-old is suspected of shooting the gun that killed X, but a judge ordered an exam to see if he can communicate “pertinent facts” to his defense team. On Friday, they argued that the results were not in on that test.

Boatwright has previously claimed that the state is withholding documents that could help his defense, in violation of his 14th Amendment rights. 

XXXTentacion was killed while leaving a motorcycle dealership in Deerfield Beach, FL. Police claim that the suspects blocked his vehicle from leaving, approached him and ultimately shot him before fleeing the scene with a bag of cash that the rapper was carrying. 

In addition to Allen and Boatwright, two more men have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Dedrick Devonshay Williams and Trayvon Newsome have also been attached to the crime and the prosecution claims to have surveillance footage of the robbery-turned-murder showing the four men stealing a bag with $50,000 in cash inside from the beloved rapper.
