Nearly a year after releasing the deluxe version of his sophomore album Limbo, Aminé returns with his new single “Charmander.”
Aminé’s first release of 2021, “Charmander” arrives alongside a video Aminé co-directed with frequent collaborator Jack Begert. The visual finds the Portland artist wandering the Oregon wilderness as he raps about enjoying his new life of solitude.
“Look, my energy is priceless, told my jeweller, ‘Ice this’/I’m way too decisive, don’t catch that ego-itis/People be so phony, that’s why I be on my lonely,” he spits over a sped-up vocal sample.
In tandem with the release, Aminé stopped by Zane Lowe’s Apple Music show Monday morning to discuss his mindset post-Limbo.
“After the release of Limbo I took some time to experiment and challenge myself to create in ways I hadn’t before—exploring different textures and tempos without any expectations,” he explained. “‘Charmander’ was the first product of that period that felt natural while still being at a completely different BPM than any of my previous work.”
