André 3000 Contributed to ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ Soundtrack

Written by on February 24, 2022

The soothing notes of André 3000’s mythical Mayan double flute are making their way to the silver screen with the rap legend contributing to four songs on the soundtrack for A24’s Michelle Yeo-starring Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Other artists included on the psychedelic, multiversal sci-fi action movie’s 49-track soundtrack include Moses Sumney, David Byrne, Mitski, Randy Newman, and more.

André Benjamin is credited as a featured artist on the songs “My Life Without You,” “The Boxcutter,” “Dog Fight,” and “Pinky Fight.” According to Rolling Stone, 3000 will play the flute on all of these records as well as on Mitski and Byrne’s duet song “This Is a Life.”

Aside from playing the double flute for passers-by as he commutes around different cities including Philadelphia, this marks the first time the OutKast member is using a different instrument besides his voice to provide musical accompaniment to a film, per IMDb. Three Stacks also composed songs for several episodes of his mid-aughts television series Class of 3000.

The new A24 flick was scored by Son Lux, an American experimental band made up of members Rafiq Bhatia, Ian Chang, and Ryan Lott. In a statement, the trio talked about how much they learned from compiling the music for the film.

“Even though we knew from the moment [Everything Everywhere directors] Daniels asked us to score this film that it would push us in new and unexpected directions, we couldn’t have predicted how much we’d learn from the project,” Son Lux said. “What emerged was our most ambitious undertaking to date, over two years in the making, resulting in two hours of new music.”

Everything Everywhere All at Once is directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert and stars Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, Ke Huy Quan, Harry Shum Jr., and Jenny Slate. It centers around an older Chinese American woman, played by Yeoh, who gets thrust from her mundane life into a quest to help save the multiverse in what’s shaping up to be a hilarious and touching adventure.

Everything Everywhere All at Once hits theaters on March 25. Watch the official trailer below.
