Andre Iguodala Thinks the ‘Core’ of the Warriors Will Return Next Season

Written by on June 10, 2019

Andre Iguodala doesn’t think all the tea leaf readings portending the doom of the superteam Warriors are entirely accurate. While both Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant are able to hit the market this offseason, Iggy said that he thinks the gang will stick together following this season.

Iguodala’s confidence comes largely from his own desire to stay right where he’s at.

“I don’t think we look at it that way at all, especially for myself,” he said on Saturday, when a reporter asked if it would be difficult to keep the team intact. “I’ll be here next year for sure, and I’m pretty confident that we’ll have our core back and we’ll try to make another run at it.”

For what it’s worth, Thompson has also made it clear that he’s happy the Bay. He has previously said that he hopes to be a Warrior for his entire career and he made sure to counter reports from earlier this season that said he was ready to jump ship.

“That’s not true,” Thompson told the Mercury News. “Have I ever indicated I was unhappy?”

Of course, it’s worth questioning whether or not Andre considers KD to be part of the core of the Warriors. Still, Iguodala closed his point by telling reporters that nobody in the locker room is talking trades at the moment. He said that the whole team is more focused on digging themselves out of a 3-1 hole against the Toronto Raptors than anything that might come in the offseason.

“Our key right now is to focus in on tomorrow’s game and the things we can do to try to keep the season going,” he said.
