Angela Bassett’s Son Apologizes for Michael B. Jordan Death Prank

Written by on January 2, 2023

Slater Vance, the 16-year-old son of Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance, issued a public apology for posting a TikTok video in which he recorded his parents’ reaction to his lie about Michael B. Jordan passing away.

“I apologize to Michael B. Jordan’s entire family, his extended family, and him directly as he is an idol of mine,” he said. “Taking part in a trend like this is completely disrespectful. I don’t wish any bad ramifications upon his family nor my parents as they deserve none of the backlash.”

Vance participated in the celebrity death prank on TikTok where someone pretends to read a news story about a famous person dying in front of their family to see how they respond. In the since-deleted clip, Bassett immediately clutches her chest upon hearing Slater falsely claim Jordan passed away, while his father refuses to believe the news to be true.

“I own this was a mistake,” Vance said. “I hope this can be a teaching lesson to anyone who uses social media as a tool and a source of entertainment to truly understand that your actions can have consequences that extend beyond you.”

Bassett and Jordan starred in Black Panther and last year’s sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
