Anna Faris Suggests ‘Competitiveness’ Hurt Her Marriage With Chris Pratt

In an honest conversation with Gwyneth Paltrow on her Anna Faris Is Unqualified podcast, Anna Faris wondered if her two marriages, both of which were with actors, didn’t work out because they struggled with “eliminating competitiveness.”
“My two other marriages were with actors and I don’t think we did a great job of eliminating competitiveness,” Faris said. “Or at least I didn’t, being a proud person, and not wanting to reveal vulnerability.”
“Any hint of competitiveness and comparison, I didn’t handle that very well, I don’t think,” she continued. “And I hope I’ve grown from that.”
In August 2017, Faris and Chris Pratt announced in a joint statement that they were legally separating after eight years of marriage. At the time of their split, Faris’ TV series Mom was heading into its fifth season, while Pratt was coming off the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, with an appearance on Avengers: Infinity War and the lead role in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom slated for the following year.
Pratt’s meteoric rise from TV regular to movie star began in 2014 when Guardians of the Galaxy and The Lego Movie, became the first and fourth highest-grossing films that year, respectively. While their careers appeared to be headed in different directions, Faris was still building out an impressive resume, which included a soon-to-be syndicated TV show, and a podcast that has been running for six years.
Faris confirmed in an appearance on The Late Late Show last year that she was engaged to cinematographer Michael Bennett, who she met while filming the 2018 remake Overboard. She was previously married to Ben Indra from 2004 to 2008.
