Although it’s just the pre-season, all eyes were on the Lakers‘ matchup against the Golden State Warriors on Sunday. Fans were interested to see how Anthony Davis would look playing next to LeBron James and AD didn’t disappoint.
Davis got the first bucket of the game when he followed up on a LeBron miss for the score. This was the beginning of the Lakers convincing 123-101 victory over Golden State., in which AD put in 22 points and gathered 10 rebounds in just 18 minutes of competition. The performance seemed to relieve some pressure off of James, who was able to add 15 points and eight assists in his 17 minutes on the floor. Afterwards, James explained to ESPN how AD’s presence has added to the team.
“AD’s AD,” James said. “I thought he was great from the beginning of the game, just his offset on the offensive end just to be able to get us extra possessions with rebounding. Knocking down shots. I think he had like five dunks in the first half. And communication on the defensive end. He’s a very cerebral player. It was a good start for him.” James’ praise for Davis continued on Instagram where he gave a less polished assessment of the game.
“My dog a MONSTER!!!” James captioned the picture. “Damn it felt good to get back out there once again! Felt like a kid in a candy store. Building good habits everyday along this process. Good start squad #LakeShow.” In other words: Here we go.
