Antonio Brown has been released by the New England Patriots.
“The New England Patriots are releasing Antonio Brown,” the team wrote in a statement, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “We appreciate the hard work of many people over the past 11 days, but we feel that it is best to move in a different direction at this time.”
Brown took to Twitter to thank the team for the “opportunity.”

News of Brown’s release comes on the heels of rape allegations being made against the wide receiver. Britney Taylor, Brown’s former trainer, made the claims. Shortly after, a second woman came forward to allege that Brown had made an unwanted sexual advance.
According to NBC Sports Boston, New England decided to release the WR shortly before he was to be paid a large portion of his signing bonus.
