Antonio Brown Says He Would Never Play in XFL

Written by on February 16, 2020

Antonio Brown has reminded the world he wants nothing to do with “lower-class football.”

As his NFL future remains uncertain, the wide receiver has ruled out joining alternative leagues—specifically the newly relaunched XFL. Brown explained his stance during a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, when asked if he had tuned into the XFL’s opening game.

“I don’t really watch lower-class football … I don’t support XFL, man. If it ain’t the highest level, man, I don’t wanna do it,” Brown said, before insisting he would never join the league (18:15). “I’m not playing XFL … it ain’t even about the money to me, for real. I don’t wanna go chill with 60 dudes every day; guys jealous ’cause AB gettin’ all the touchdowns; guys jealous AB getting all the girls they be wishing about.”

He continued: “I don’t really gotta sell anyone on my talent about football. I think my resume speaks for myself … I’m just out there, get back to what I love to do, and that’s at the high level with the NFL.”

Brown has not played in the NFL since September 2019, when he was released from New England Patriots after one regular-season game. His release occurred after a string of off-field controversies, including sexual assault allegations levied by his former trainer, Britney Taylor.

“They got rid of me … I didn’t really know you could lose your job of ‘he-say, she-say,” Brown said (33:58). “The case is just on pause. I got a confidentiality [contract] that I had to sign in March—I couldn’t even defend myself. This is a trainer girl who used to stay over at my house … she wanted me to invest in her business … I can’t even defend myself. Imagine that. You see the world just scrutinize you, and you can’t even defend yourself and you don’t even have no one out there advocating for your well-being.”

Brown also touched on spoke about his respect for Tom Brady, his issues with Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, and his beef with Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster.
