Yaqub Talib, brother of former NFL cornerback Aqib Talib, is wanted by authorities after a man was fatally shot following a youth football game in Texas over the weekend.
TMZ has learned the Lancaster Police Department has issued a warrant for the arrest of Talib, who is being charged with murder. The charge comes one day after a video surfaced online showing multiple people involved in a physical altercation on the field before shots rang out and sent everyone scattering.
The identity of the victim has not been confirmed, but WFAA has reportedly been told by coaches for the DEA Dragons, a youth football team in Texas, that a coach named Mike Hickmon was killed.
Police suspect the victim died from an apparent gunshot wound. Authorities have reviewed the footage of the incident and identified Talib, who was wearing an entirely black ensemble, along with a bucket hat, at the time, as the person who discharged the weapon.
In a statement to TMZ, Aqib’s attorney acknowledged that he was present when the shooting occurred, even though the police didn’t identify him in their report. “Aqib was present when this unfortunate incident occurred and is very distraught and devastated over this terrible loss of life,” the statement reads. “He would like to convey his condolences to the family of the victim and to everyone who witnessed this unfortunate tragedy.”
According to WFAA, the officers who arrived at the scene were told that there was a “disagreement among coaching staff and the officiating crew” prior to the shooting.
