Armie Hammer Exits Broadway’s ‘The Minutes’ Amid Assault Investigation

Written by on April 3, 2021

Armie Hammer has exited another project.

The 34-year-old actor announced Friday night he will not to return to the The Minutes, Tracy Letts’ Broadway play that was expected to resume production in the upcoming season. The news comes amid Hammer’s sexual abuse scandal that is now being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department. Hammer explained his decision to leave The Minutes in a brief statement.

“I have loved every single second of working on ‘The Minutes’ with the family I made from Steppenwolf.” he said. “But right now I need to focus on myself and my health for the sake of my family. Consequently, I will not be returning to Broadway with the production.”

According to Variety, The Minutes was originally set to debut in March 2020, but was put on hold due to the pandemic closures across New York. It was reportedly the last acting job Hammer had on his slate, as he has either left or been fired from various projects in wake of the sexual abuse controversy.

On Jan. 10, an anonymous Instagram user posted screenshots of explicit DMs that Hammer purportedly sent to different women. The messages detailed different sex acts, including graphic references to cannibalism. Since then, multiple women came forward accusing Hammer of both physical and mental abuse. Several weeks ago, a woman accused the actor of raping her in 2017 when she was 20.

Hammer has denied all allegations.
