ASAP Rocky Shares Jay-Z’s Reaction Over “Goldie” Lyrics About Ace of Spades

In a preview of the latest Drink Champs, ASAP Rocky recalled the time Jay-Z confronted his ASAP Mob bandmates over a line in his song “Goldie.”
In it, ASAP makes a reference to champagne brand Armand de Brignac, aka Ace of Spades. Hov publicly sided with the brand following his infamous boycott of Cristal, which he called racist in 2006. Come 2014, he bought Ace of Spades entirely. “Goldie,” which debuted in 2012, appears to reference Jay’s accusations of racism, but it seems he wasn’t thrilled about Rocky’s claim both champagne brands taste the same.
“When I first came out, I’m like, ‘Cristal by the cases, maybe that was racist/I would prefer the Aces, ain’t no different when you taste it.’ Like, I ain’t know Hov—I ain’t know Jay owned Ace of Spades! I ain’t gonna lie, I don’t think he was jacking it,” he told N.O.R.E. Asked if he had a run-in or conversation about the line, he revealed that Jay confronted other members of ASAP Mob about it.
“Nah, like, he seen some lil’ ASAP n***as back in the day. He seen like, ASAP Bari and them, he called them to the side and was like, ‘Yo, come here. Let me holla at y’all,'” ASAP said laughing, noting that he wasn’t sure how Jay even knew of the rest of ASAP Mob at the time since it was so early in their careers. “He was like, ‘So, your mans. What’s up with that line?’ ‘Cause I might’ve said some crazy sh*t like “sip Cris and f*ck Ace,’ I didn’t know it was owned by [Jay].”
Rocky added that Jay told the ASAP crew that Cristal “don’t really support us,” echoing his accusations the brand is “racist.”
The ASAP Rocky episode of Drink Champs is promising to be a big one. A trailer for the episode was dropped earlier this week, and it showed Rocky react to N.O.R.E. stating that Travis Scott “stole his whole style” from him. Rocky seemingly agrees, replying, “Yeah.” It’s not clear if the trailer has been edited in a way to make it appear as though Rocky agrees with the narrative that La Flame stole his style or if he’s simply aware of it.
