Australian Man Sets Guinness World Record for Most Push-Ups in 1 Hour

Written by on April 17, 2023

An Australian man has earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records after cranking out 3,206 push-ups in one hour.

As reported by Guinness, Lucas Helmke, a 33-year-old father from Brisbane, says he trained for two years in an effort to break the previous record, which was set by another Aussie, Daniel Scali, who completed 3,182 push-ups in April 2022. Naturally, prior to Scali, the record was held by Jarrad Young, also an Australian, who delivered 3,054 push-ups in 2021.

“This one finally came through,” Helmke wrote on Facebook to celebrate his achievement.

Helmke, whose new record amounts to 53 push-ups per minute, cemented his status as the King of Push-Ups while working out at the Iron Underground gym in November 2022. Helmke told Guinness that he attempted the push-ups record in an effort to inspire his 1-year-old son and show him that “nothing is impossible.”

With one record in his rear view, Helmke is already gearing up to conquer more physical fitness records. “This will be the first record I wish to set of a number of other push-up records,” he shared. “Then onto other physical records.”

According to CNN, the United States could be on its way to producing the next push-up record-holder, as a Florida man, 60-year-old Rob Stirling, nearly set the record last month by banging out 3,264 push-ups.
