Baltimore Police Officer Dies After Being Shot in Patrol Car

Written by on December 25, 2021

Keona Holley, the Baltimore Police officer who was shot last week while sitting in her patrol car, has died, per CNN

Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said in a Thursday Facebook statement that she was taken off of life support, and that her health had “been deteriorating over the last couple of days and her family, in consultation with her doctors, has had to make the most difficult decision.”

“Our prayers are with Officer Holley’s family and loved ones, co-workers and the entire community,” Harrison said. “I thank her and the entire BPD community for their commitment, service and sacrifice. We mourn Officer Holley’s death together and we will heal together.”

Holley was shot on Dec. 16, when somebody walked up to the vehicle and before she accelerated her car and crashed. Elliot Knox, 31, and Travon Shaw, 32, have since been charged with attempted murder, as well as the murder of Justin Johnson who was shot afterward. Authorities say they confessed to the crime.

“What we now know is that both shootings are related,” Harrison said last week. “As we now know the perpetrators of Officer Holley’s shooting, they then left that scene, went to Lucia Avenue and then committed that homicide of Justin Johnson.”

Mayor Brandon Scott shared some words about Holley in the police statement on Facebook, asking for prayers for her family—including her daughter.

“Baltimore will never forget Officer Holley’s sacrifice and commitment to making a difference in her beloved city,” he shared. “I ask that everyone please keep Officer Holley’s family in your prayers as they endure the holiday season without their mother, daughter, sister and loyal friend.”
