Ben Roethlisberger Wears Cleats for Pittsburgh Shooting Victims

Written by on November 4, 2018

The mass shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh hit close to home for the Steelers organization. This past Tuesday, Steelers players and coaches attended the joint funeral of Cecil and David Rosenthal, who were among the 11 killed on October 27. Michele Rosenthal, the sister of Cecil and David, used to be the team’s community relations manager.

On Sunday, Ben Roethlisberger honored the victims before today’s game against the Baltimore Ravens by wearing cleats that featured the phrase “Stronger Than Hate,” along with an image that incorporates the Star of David within the Steelers’ logo. Roethlisberger wore the personalized footwear during pre-game warm-ups before changing to a black-and-gold pair to avoid a fine from the NFL for violating the league’s dress code policy.

“It was tough, it was crazy tough, especially with Michele and the closeness we have with her,” Roethlisberger said last Sunday, per ESPN. “We’re thankful for the victory, but we all understand, there are bigger things, there’s life.” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin lives in Squirrel Hill, the neighborhood where the shooting took place.

Underground Printing announced their partnership with the Steelers organization Friday for a sale of a shirt featuring the “Stronger Than Hate” image, which was created by Tim Hindes, with proceeds going towards the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh – Fund for Victims of Terror.
