‘Better Call Saul’ Star Giancarlo Esposito Says 6 Seasons Is ‘Comfortable Way’ to End Show

Written by on April 23, 2019

Better Call Saul will run at least roughly the same length as the original Breaking Bad, which is actually something we’ve been aware of for quite some time now. For franchise star Giancarlo Esposito, however, an impending sixth season—which, at the earliest, would debut in 2021—would be the perfect time to call it a day.

In a recent interview with Collider, Esposito noted that Breaking Bad‘s final year was split into two halves (effectively making it a six-year series) and said presumably about as much as he could regarding the spinoff’s future.

Asked if the upcoming fifth season will be the last round for Vince Gilligan and company, Esposito explained that nailing down a timeline is “tricky” in his universe. “He broke [Breaking Bad] into a sixth,” he said. “In telling the story, you know, it’s always difficult to find the ending of what is supposed to be. But then there is another ending of what could be or what you imagine things to be after the ending has concluded.”

Esposito was then asked if, at this point, he knew where Gilligan was taking the story. Though it’s typically “script by script” for the prolific actor, he did let loose a somewhat ominous quote about that sixth season.

“There will be six seasons,” he said. “It seems like that’s the way—the comfortable way—to end this show.”

Also on the horizon for Breaking Bad fans is a possibly feature-length Netflix and AMC project focused on surviving original series character Jesse Pinkman.
