Bindi Irwin paid tribute to her late father and wildlife expert Steve Irwin through her newborn daughter’s name.
Irwin gave birth to Grace Warrior Irwin Powell on her first wedding anniversary with her husband, Chandler Powell. “Our graceful warrior is the most beautiful light,” Irwin wrote on Instagram. “Grace is named after my great-grandmother, and relatives in Chandler’s family dating back to the 1700s. Her middle names, Warrior Irwin, are a tribute to my dad and his legacy as the most incredible Wildlife Warrior.”
She added that Grace “already has such a kind soul just like her dad.” Irwin continued, “There are no words to describe the infinite amount of love in our hearts for our sweet baby girl. She chose the perfect day to be born and we feel tremendously blessed.”
Irwin’s mother, Terry Irwin, shared her joy on Twitter, writing that “love is not a big enough word” for the baby’s arrival. “My heart is so incredibly happy,” she wrote. “And I know that Steve would be beyond proud. Grace is the next generation to continue his mission and message of conservation. She chose her parents wisely. Bindi and Chandler are already the best parents ever!”
Bindi’s brother, Robert Irwin, also chimed in on Twitter, saying, “Let the uncle adventures begin!”
Bindi and Powell had a lockdown wedding at Australia Zoo last year, with no guests. The wedding took place just hours before Australia enforced strict social distancing guidelines, which dictated that weddings could only take place with a maximum of five individuals. The couple’s decision received mixed reactions, but Bindi defended their decision to wed.
