Black Star made another career milestone on SNL.
Earlier this year, the duo of Talib Kweli and Yasiin Bey released their second album No Fear of Time on Luminary, which was their first piece of new music in 24 years after their seminal album Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star in 1998. Talib and Yasiin are also creators of the thought-provoking The Midnight Miracle podcast on Luminary, hosted by the pair with Chappelle.
During their performance, Black Star started off first with “So Be It” with some assistance from Madlib. Yasiin also threw red rose pedals on the ground to signify giving his flowers to Talib.
Ahead of their SNL debut, Black Star released the video for “So Be It.” “Our value is in our performance and how we connect with our audience,” Kweli says about the clip to Consequence. “We wanted to provide a visual that showcases that for the core fans.” You can watch it below.
On Nov. 15, Blue Note Entertainment Group and Luminary announced a special pop-up show at Sony Hall in New York City. You can purchase tickets for the midnight showing here.
